Year 6 Days Online Resources
The resources are divided into 5 activities, which do not have to be done in order. However we do suggest that the Introduction and Activity 1 should be done first as they are a good introduction to the theme and the Minster respectively.
Introduction
An introduction to the theme of moving on and feelings about the big change ahead. The Story of Jonah, discussion about what the story can teach us.
Watch: The Story of Jonah (10.5 minute video)
Activity 1
A tour of the Minster by video, explore what it means to be a light for others and count our blessings looking at the candle chapel and the Chapter House. Collage activity. Extra material – the Chapter House and the Garden of Eden (video).
Watch: Introducing Southwell Minster (10 minute video)
Watch: The Chapter House and the Garden of Eden (12minute video)
Activity 2
A video in which we meet some members of staff and think about their different skills and talents needed for their role. Think about and discuss personal qualities.
Watch: Meet the Minster Staff (12 minute video)
PDF: The Woman in Hiding (story), needed to complete activity 2a

Activity 3
A look at some details from one of our impressive windows which retell the story of creation. Make a bookmark.
PPT: Creation in stained glass
PDF: Angel window detail: to photocopy onto card to make bookmarks or onto acetate or tracing paper to make stained glass window.
Activity 4
The Minster as a place of remembrance. Video inside the Minster looking at things that are remembered. Focus on a statue of the first Bishop of Southwell, George Ridding. Children think about how they would like to be remembered. Create ideas for a sculpture which would reflect their own values. Suggestion to make a model of or paint their sculpture.
