Threads through the Bible is made up of three huge sequences, ‘Threads through Creation’, ’Threads through the Cross’ and ‘Threads through Revelation’ to create one extraordinary display of textile art.
This will probably be not only the largest textile project by a single artist ever, but also the largest textile project for 600 years. It will be astonishing in its scale and variety.
It will have taken ten years, and used more than 25 million stitches. There will be 44 panels. If they were presented side by side, they would stretch more than 80 metres.
Threads through Creation
From the first pages of the Bible, twelve huge panels retell the wonderful creation story from Genesis.
Threads through the Cross
At the heart of the Bible, eighteen huge panels carry the story from the birth of Jesus and on to his death, resurrection and ascension.
Threads through Revelation
From the last pages of the Bible, fourteen huge panels re-imagine the scenes described in Revelation.
From tragedy here’s triumph: the exhibition ends with the most spectacular, breathtaking panels, a great vision of hope.
‘Threads through Revelation’ and ‘Threads through Creation’ inspired thousands of people of all backgrounds: ‘Threads through the Bible’ is likely to inspire many more. Everything is easily understood and accessible for everyone, including those with little or no interest in ‘Art’ or Christianity.
Please note that between Tuesday 11 – Friday 14 March (inclusive), there will be large school groups visiting the Minster and so these dates are best avoided if possible. For safeguarding reasons, photography will not be allowed on these days.
