This Sunday, on the feast of Candlemas, we celebra

This Sunday, on the feast of Candlemas, we celebrate our Patronal Festival.

Our preacher at the 10.00am Cathedral Eucharist is the Revd Canon Dr Judith Maltby of the University of Oxford, and the service will include a candlelit procession around the Minster.

We also have a special Festal Evensong at 3.30pm

Epiphany Sung Eucharist with Installations of Acting Residentiary Canons.

At our Sung Eucharist for the feast of the Epiphany, on Monday 6 January at 7.30pm, Bishop Paul will join us to install the Revd Canon Stephen Hippisley-Cox and the Reverend Amanda Lees as our Acting Canon Pastor and Canon Missioner. These beautiful, bespoke rose vestments were worn

These beautiful, bespoke rose vestments were worn for the first time at yesterday’s Cathedral Eucharist.

Rose (pink) vestments are traditionally worn on the third Sunday of Advent (Gaudete Sunday) and the fourth Sunday of Lent (Laetare or Mothering Sunday), symbolising hope and expectation.

The vestments were created by members of the Minster’s Needlework Guild and designed by their Tutor, Emma Frith.

The designs bring together motifs associated with the Minster’s history and with the Blessed Virgin Mary, our Patron.

Thank you for following our exhibition from February to November this year. We’ve had a lot of fun sharing all 140 objects with you! And enjoyed your thoughts about each object along the way. CANON’S CHOICE:
THE KELHAM MADONNA
This beautiful wooden sculpture of the Madonna and Child was crafted in 1952 by Alan Coleman. It was gifted to the Minster in 1974.

“This unusual image of Mary and Jesus reminds me of the Minster’s dedication to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and of our links to the story of Christianity in Nottinghamshire. I often stop here to pray on my way into or out of the Cathedral.” - Canon Precentor, The Revd Dr Richard Frith

NEEDLEWORK GUILD’S CHOICE:
DESIGN PORTFOLIO 🧵
The Needlework Guild bring the Minster to life with their beautiful, handcrafted textiles.

Embroidery has been a key part of Christian worship since the early church. By the 12th century, when the Minster was built, embroidered vestments and church furnishings were as important as its stonework, stained glass and woodwork.
