Informal Worship

Worship for Young People

Children and young people are welcome at all of our services but we do provide for their needs through the Sunday Club, which meets monthly during the Sunday 9.30 am Parish Eucharist service during term-time.

We meet in Trebeck Hall from 9.30 am until 10.20 am where we enjoy games, discussions, stories, arts and crafts before we join the service in the Minster for Communion.

If you would like to find out more about the Sunday Club do please contact: Fr. Matthew Askey, Minster School Chaplain for more information: 01636 817298 frmaskey@btinternet.com

House Groups

House groups are an important part of Southwell Minster’s life.  They provide an informal opportunity for members of the congregation to get to know each other, learn and explore together questions about life and faith, grow spiritually, and feed through ideas and suggestions relating to different Minster activities.

The current series runs through the winter and early spring.  Seven groups are meeting, two on Tuesday and Friday mornings and five on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday(2) and Thursday evenings.  Eight fortnightly meetings take place with a break over Christmas.  The groups are small and welcoming.  The Monday evening group meets in the Hearty Goodfellow and the Thursday evening and Friday morning ones in Sacrista Prebend – others in people’s homes in different parts of Southwell.

The current series is ‘Prophetic Voices‘ exploring what prophets in the Old Testament, in particular Ezekiel, Isaiah and Jeremiah were saying relevant to then and now.

All are very welcome to join a group at any time.  If you would like to, or would like further information, please contact Vicky Thorpe 01636 813222; vicky@thorpemusic.co.uk or Patrick Sills 01636 815173; patricksills18@gmail.com.

Prayer Groups

The Minster has two prayer groups where people come together to pray for clergy, individual needs and the wider diocese and world. Everyone is welcome whether they prefer to pray silently or out loud.

Currently there are two prayer groups:

  • A contemplative prayer group on a Monday evening at Sacrista. For details please contact Susan Moses at Sacrista tel: 01636 816833
  • A silence and meditation group in the Pilgrims Chapel at 12.30pm on Thursday. Do have a word with Kate Sartain regarding this group
